Artist Damilola Odusote is known for his eclectic and intricate works that combine ink drawings with tiny human figures. His favorite artists  MC Escher and David Shrigley for the detail and humor in their deep thought provoking drawings, and you can definitely see an Escher influence in this piece, entitled Show Pink Love Together. Spotted at the recent Affordable Art Fair in NYC, this work is priced at $950 from Arteria Gallery.

Even if you’ve been attending New York’s biannual Affordable Art Fair for the past decade, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the blocks-long queue snaking east from the Metropolitan Pavilion for that of yet another big retail chain’s going-out-of-business sale. On my way to the Wednesday night Private View, I thought maybe the Container Store was in its final days, so it was kind of crazy to realize that the line lead directly to my destination, meaning the AAF is back post-Covid as a bona fide social event, attracting an eclectic group of VIPS, art enthusiasts, collectors, and assorted fans. Judging by the body-to-body crowd and vibrant atmosphere inside the venue, art events have entered a new, new normal. Welcome to it.

When I spotted this sparkling resin sculpture replicating a batch of glitter-drizzled Pink French Fries — intermingled with what looks to me like Pot Leaves —  at the recent Affordable Art Fair, I immediately thought another artist was high-jacking the ideas of whimsical pop artist Betsy Enzensberger, but I was mistaken.

Favorite Art From The Affordable Art Fair, Fall 2022!

If I am ever asked to name my three favorite pastimes (which really is not often) I will respond as follows:

I like to Eat
I like to Look at Art
and
I like to Watch TV

You can see that my love of Art is way up there, ranking just behind my love of sustenance, TV and also (not mentioned previously) sleeping. Art Fairs are a terrific way to get a huge and diverse art fix in one place and my favorite is the twice-annual Affordable Art Fair (AAF), which I have been highlighting and photo-recapping since 2015! I can’t believe how much I rule.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Pigs. The above photo shows just a small section of a wall sculpture called Piggies #69 from artist Seunghwui-Koo, which I spotted in the both for Paris-based Singulart Gallery at the recent Affordable Art Fair. According to the artist, the little pig figurines are symbolic of all people, with the bright colors and tiny patterns on each representing the many different kinds of people.
