Ringo Starr Exhibits Original Art at Pop International Gallery

Ringo Arrival at Pop International Galleries

There’s a wickedly humorous story in Beatles’ legend that goes something like this: when asked by a journalist if Ringo Starr was the best drummer he’d ever heard, John Lennon replied, “Ringo isn’t even the best drummer in the Beatles.” As hilarious as that joke is, I think that Ringo Jokes exist for the same reason that Blonde Jokes exist: because people are jealous. I mean, Ringo Starr was in The fucking Beatles, and The Beatles invented everything! As far as I’m concerned, he has carte blanche to do whatever he wants. Ringo Starr! Andy Warhol Chocolate Bars!

I love chocolate, and apparently the late, great Andy Warhol was a lifelong fan of the sweet stuff as well. Now, in homage to the Pioneer of Pop Art, Praim Group – a food licensing, marketing and distribution company – has secured an agreement with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc., to create and distribute a line of all-natural chocolate bars featuring the likeness of the globally famous Artist on its wrappers.

With four different designs, each wrapper also boasts one of Warhol’s famous quotes including, “All I Ever Really Want is Sugar,” “Everybody Must Have a Fantasy,” “The Idea of Waiting for Something Makes it More Exciting” and the artist’s arguably best known and definitely most misquoted saying, “In the Future Everybody Will Be World Famous for 15 Minutes.” The 3.5 ounce, all-natural “Chocolate Andy Bars,” available in both dark and milk chocolate, are an ideal collectible and perfect gift for any art fan!

Distribution outlets are still being acquired, so I can’t say how soon this edible chocolate collectible will be available at your neighborhood supermarket or specialty shop, but in the meantime the Andy Bars can be purchased for $5 each! Andy Warhol!

André Saraiva’s Andrépolis at The Hole

Andrepolis Full Room
Welcome to Andrépolis (All Photos By Gail)!

For me, a work of art is most effective when it creates a portal to an alternate reality into which the viewer can then immerse himself. A current exhibit which achieves this objective exquisitely is Andrépolis, the first major solo show by Portuguese artist André Saraiva – primarily known as the graffiti artist André – which opened at The Hole Gallery on Bowery this past Thursday.

Artist Don Porcella currently has a Solo Exhibition of new and favorite works – featuring both his trademark pipe cleaner sculptures and his hand made encaustic paintings– at Spattered Columns Exhibition Space, a venue for NYC- based artists and curators without commercial gallery representation, which is run by Art Connects New York. You may have read about Don’s awesome art previously here at The Gig or elsewhere: his work is always thought provoking and a lot of fun. Andy Warhol Prom Outfits

Prom isn’t a rite of passage that I get sentimental about at all, in any way. I mean, Prom Shmom, who cares? In 20 years, one isolated night of awkward earnestness and drunken, hormone-fueled teenage boinking won’t mean anything anyway. What was I just talking about? Oh yes, Prom outfits. Don’t this young couple look really cute and much smarter/cooler than anyone else at their Prom could possibly look, all dressed up in a suit and dress that come together to form a likeness of my very favorite modern artist, Andy Warhol? Man, they look good. I hope they had fun at their stupid Prom.
