One of our favorite artists that we’ve discovered at The Hole Gallery is Holton Rower, whose vibrant and visually captivating pour paintings can currently be seen at the gallery in a fun show entitled Psquirmour. For this exhibit, The Hole constructed a mini gallery within the gallery’s back room, where the exterior walls showcase a group of six new Pour Paintings, and the interior space highlights a new body of work called Squirms, which are controlled pours on a wood panel, presented more like traditional paintings in a rectilinear format.

Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Phallus Kiddie Ride
Some of you with very good memories might recall that this photo — taken at André Saraiva’s Andrépolis exhibit at The Hole Gallery — was originally posted here back in the Summer of 2012, but had to be removed from the blog due to complaints by Google Ads, who thought it was endorsing some kind of Adult Toy. Xstraction Group Show at The Hole Gallery
Artwork By Davina Semo on Exhibit Now at The Hole (All Photos By Gail)
The Hole is currently hosting a large group show in its main gallery that is all about new approaches to Abstract Painting. All I can say is what a colorful show! With 39 artists ranging from the legendary to the brand new, this exhibition looks at some of the major themes in abstract painting today, including the influence of digital technology, textile based abstraction, material driven and process based abstraction, as well as many others. Xstraction is probably the most varied, fun and most vibrant collection of contemporary abstract works I’ve seen in any gallery show in recent memory.
André Saraiva’s Andrépolis at The Hole
Welcome to Andrépolis (All Photos By Gail)!

A current exhibit which achieves this objective exquisitely is Andrépolis, the first major solo show by Portuguese artist André Saraiva – primarily known as the graffiti artist André – which opened at The Hole Gallery on Bowery this past Thursday.
NYC’s Hole Gallery Opens Pop Up Restaurant Hole Foods on 14th Street
While we were sorry to say goodbye to Chef Dave Martin’s woefully short-lived Meatball Factory, which shuttered its doors at the end of April, the space at the corner of 2nd Second Ave and 14th Street didn’t stay empty for long. In an exciting “Contemporary art gallery meets fun summer eatery” venture, the folks at The Hole Gallery have launched a pop up restaurant, cleverly named Hole Foods, which will serve a rotating menu of seafood and featured comfort food dishes in a vibrant, modern art gallery setting.
