German emigre Kem Weber (18891963) designed original and colorful furniture and interiors devoid of overt historical references and evocative of modern times. Weber came to the US in 1914 to supervise construction of the German Pavilion at the Panema-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Eye On Design: Fredrikson Stallard, Armchair Species II

This bright red armchair that looks like it was chiseled from a boulder is actually sculpted from polyurethane foam and upholstered in a brushed velvet-like polyester, making it quite a comfortable place to rest. Species II (circa 2015) is part of the Species series by London-based design duo Fredrikson Stallard, following their study in evolution through the media of furniture design. The designers claim that the chair was “created with a brute force that is at odds with ideas of comfort or human contact, yet so inviting by the nature of its materials.” I think anyone can see what they are getting at.

Toiletpaper Paradise was an amazing, interactive art exhibit  installed in the gallery at Cadillac House in Soho, NYC from February 9th to April 12th, 2017. The brains behind this fab happening are artist Maurizio Cattelan (whom you have read about previously on this rad blog) and his photographer partner Pierpaolo Ferrari. The exhibit, which was a surrealist wet dream of an apartment comprised of four rooms, was sponsored by creative media agency Visionaire and based on the duo’s image-heavy art publication, Toiletpaper Magazine.
