To be honest, if a work of art also ‘lights up,’ I’m in. So it’s a bit appropriate that I was attracted into the C24 Gallery on a recent Saturday by the light emitting from London-based artist Robert Montgomery’s poetic, text-based installation works as seen from the sidewalk through gallery windows. The newest commissioned artwork for the High Line Billboard just went up on September 3rd. This installation is a boldly-colored, stained glass-inspired Gilbert & George painting called Waking. The controversial art duo appear in the painting (from 1984) three times in the very center of the image and are surrounded on both sides by various male figures and faces. This photo was taken at approximately 7 PM, so you can see the sun is already starting to set, but this was the best I could do as I am not in this neighborhood very often.
Gilbert & George: Waking will be up through October 1st, 2013 in a parking lot adjacent to the The High Line, at West 18th Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan.

If a Times Square Billboard Says It, It Must Be True!
Identical twin artists How & Nosm are among ten artists commissioned in cities around the world to create original artwork for DKNY ARTWORKS. Each original work captures an artistic expression of the NYC skyline within the frame of a DKNY logo. The participating artists were asked to interpret New York City as they envision it and were selected based on their connection with the city in which their artwork will be featured. The billboard by How & Nosm, titled I JUST CALLED TO SAY can be found at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 48th Street in Times Square, NYC.

Chris Stamp, who co-managed The Who during their rise to rock stardom and released the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s first single and album via his Track Records label, has died of cancer at age 70.
According to Billboard, Stamp passed away Saturday night (Nov. 24) at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital. He met the Who while making a film about the rise of rock music in England, and went on to become the group’s co-manager alongside Kit Lambert. The pair worked with the group until their dismissal in 1975, with Stamp also earning production credits on Who albums including Magic Bus and Quadrophenia.
Stamp and Lambert (who died in 1981) formed Track Records in 1968 and released Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold as Love and other classic albums by Hendrix along with records from The Who, Arthur Brown and Golden Earring.
After reportedly conquering his own substance abuse problems in 1987, Stamp began a new career as an addiction counseling therapist. He reconnected with the Who in later years by participating in documentaries and writing liner notes for re-releases of their classic albums.
The Who paid tribute to Stamp both on their official website and from the stage, with singer Roger Daltrey telling the crowd at the group’s Detroit concert Saturday night their former manager was a person “without whom we wouldn’t be the band we were.”
Stamp is the brother of actor, Terence Stamp.
