What a nice surprise it was to find this huge mural by legendary Black Flag logo designer and flyer artist, Raymond Pettibon, adorning a wall of the backyard patio (reserved for smokers, although it was vacant when this picture was snapped) at the Double Down Saloon when we were there drinking happily last evening. Born Raymond Ginn in 1957, Pettibon is of course the younger brother of Black Flag guitarist and primary songwriter Greg Ginn. Trivia!
The Double Down Saloon is located at 14 Ave. A, just north of Houston, New York, NY 10009.
McDonalds restaurants in the country of Austria have just started serving a limited-engagement specialty sandwich called the McRibster. As if the Double Down didn’t go quite far enough, the McRibster is basically a McRib meat thing which has been breaded, deep fried and made all the more artery clogging by the addition of delicious bacon and cheese. It makes my left arm hurt just to read about it. Of course, they endeavor to make it all pretty and deceptively healthful–looking by tossing on some iceberg lettuce, sliced red onion and tasty sauces (in this case, “delicious honey-mustard sauce and spicy sweet chili sauce”) but we can see it is just a heart attack on a bun. Mmmm…tasty heart attack. The McRibster is available at the McDonalds of Austria until March 27, 2012.
