Happy Birthday, Keith Moon!

Keef!

Jesus God, can you believe this guy was only 32 when he died?! What a crying shame. If Keith had stuck around a few more decades he would have been celebrating a Birthday today, having been born on August 23rd, 1946! Party on, Keith! I’m glad I at least got to see you play drums before you took off!

Gayest Drum Kit, Ever!

My friend Chris, who lives down in Satellite Beach, Florida sent me this picture of a drum kit that was designed for him by our mutual pal, Rikki Rockett of the band Poison. Here’s what Chris had to say about this very awesome pink camouflage kit: Continue reading Gayest Drum Kit, Ever!

An Interview with Gene Hoglan

Since Strapping Young Lad disbanded in 2007, Gene Hoglan hasn’t exactly sat on his drum throne waiting for the phone to ring. In the past year, the drummer of such revered thrash/death metal bands as Dark Angel and Death – who’s also sat in for the drummers in Slayer and Opeth – has continued to add impressive projects to his resume. Happy 60th Birthday, Neal Smith!

Neal on his Mirrored Kit

Neal on his Mirrored Drumkit, Billion Dollar Babies Tour, 1972

Today, September 23rd, is the sixtieth birthday of my very good friend, Neal, who was the drummer in and a founding member of the legendary ‘70s rock band Alice Cooper. Without Neal’s influence and association (along with that of Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and the late Glen Buxton), the solo artist now known as Alice Cooper would certainly be doing something else for a living these days. Rock on Neal, and thanks for all the great music. You’re still a superstar to me!
