Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848 – 1933) made a series of jewelry designs composed of moonstones and Montana sapphires set in platinum. This necklace (circa 1910), one of the most elaborate, features moonstones of irregular sizes and shapes intersperse with the design of twisted scrolls, each enclosing four tiny sapphires. The piece could be worn as one large elaborate necklace with pendant, as seen here, or it could be separated into discrete items and worn as a choker or a bracelet with the pendent wearable  as an independent brooch.

Photographed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Eye On Design: Austrian Chandelier with Loetz Lampshades Circa 1902

Some pieces don’t just hang from the ceiling — they descend, like a moment caught mid-fall. This circa 1902 chandelier, created through the collaboration of Johann Loetz Witwe and E. Bakalowits Söhne, is less about rigid structure and more about movement, rhythm, and glow.

What immediately stands out is its verticality. Rather than a traditional branching chandelier, this one is composed of a series of long, delicate drops — textile-wrapped cords punctuated with rich amber glass beads. These beads don’t just decorate; they create a visual cadence, like a string of glowing notes suspended in air. The hammered brass ceiling plate above quietly anchors the piece, allowing everything else to flow downward in a loose, cascading arrangement.

Eye On Design: Guernica Pendent Lamp by Mathieu Lehanneur

French designer Mathieu Lehanneur has long blurred the line between art, science, and nature — and his sculptural pendant lamp Guernica is no exception. Inspired by the organic beauty of a flower, Lehanneur began by 3D-scanning an iris blossom, digitally manipulating its form, and then realizing the piece in ceramic. The result is a luminous object that appears to bloom midair, its soft, petal-like curves both delicate and defiant. Continue reading Eye On Design: Guernica Pendent Lamp by Mathieu Lehanneur
