Sadly I Could Not Locate an Existing Image That Said “Barmitzvah Palooza,” So This Will Have to Do
Later this afternoon I’ll be flying out to the west coast to attend the Bar Mitzvah (aka Barmitzvah Palooza) of Mr. Griffin Sloves. Of course, Barmitzvah Palooza will not encompass the entire weekend, so mixed up with the Torah Reading and such, there will also be a bit of San Francisco touristy site seeing, friend visiting, eating, drinking and more eating. Besides rubbing in your very attractive faces the fact that I’m taking a little vacation, I just wanted to let you know this blog will be unmanned until I get back to New York next Tuesday. I am sorry to leave you without web cleverness for a few days, but it really could not be helped. Please enjoy perusing a few of my classic Rock Star Interview Archives while I’m away.
Thinking back on the Jello Model City of San Francisco, you can’t deny that gelatinous substances look fantastic when illuminated from within! This chandelier is made almost entirely out of strung together Gummy Bear candies and was created by artist YaYa Chou. Such gorgeousness!
Artist Liz Hickok has created something truly unique and beautiful with her sculpture project, San Francisco in Jell-O. Liz explains, “This project consists of photographs and video, which depict various San Francisco landscapes. I make the landscapes by constructing scale models of the architectural elements which I use to make molds. I then cast the buildings in Jell-O. Similar to making a movie set, I add backdrops, which I often paint, and elements such as mountains or trees, and then I dramatically light the scenes from the back or underneath. The Jell-O sculptures quickly decay, leaving the photographs and video as the remains.” Read more about the project at This Link.
A Hard Days Night was on the IFC last night (Paul McCartney in 1964 = Cutest Boy Ever) and I’m glad I forgot to switch channels once The Beatles were done looking fucking hot and making the little girls scream, because the film that came on right after turned out to be one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen – and anyone who’s seen my Netflix queue can tell you that documentaries are my jam. The film is called The Bridge and it documents a year in the life of San Francisco’s marvelous Golden Gate Bridge as told by families and friends of those who’ve committed suicide by jumping from it.
