This week in Eye on Design, we get a bit more in-depth to take you inside an exclusive industry party, held at the FLOS lighting showroom in Soho, for the launch of the Superloon floor lamp, designed Jasper Morrison.

Superloon Party

Superloon is a minimally designed, flat disc lamp mounted on a gyroscopic axis atop a three-legged stand. The moon-inspired  light surface for which the lamp is named  is the result of a revolutionary Edge Lighting technology, which combines maximum performance, efficiency and visual comfort. Superloon includes the Dim-to-Warm function: as the intensity decreases, the light goes from a colder blue tone to a warmer spectrum, as seen with popular filament lamps.

Pearl River Mart Reopens in TriBeCa!

Finally, there’s bright spot on this dismal end of year season. Pearl River Mart, everyone’s favorite Asian Imports Store, has reopened as a Pop-Up at 395 Broadway. Oh, Happy Day. This space will become the store’s permanent location after a brief shuttering in February 2017 to allow for further construction on the interior.

A & G Merchandise is a fun home furnishings store that’s just across the street from Sea Thai restaurant in Williamsburg, and Geoffrey and I often use it as our meet-up destination when we are heading to Sea from different points of departure. Recently, I arrived a few minutes before G, so I had time to browse a bit and see what’s new.

Pink Poodle Book End

Check out this pair of Pink Poodle Book Ends! They look super retro and would be perfect as part of any Midcentury Modern decor! Made of heavy cast iron, one of these could easily serve as an impromptu bludgeoning device if you were being chased around your house by a mad man and didn’t have time to get to your kitchen knives.
