I am a big fan of the work of maverick architect Frank Lloyd Wright; this much is no secret. When I was in Chicago in the Spring of 2010, I had the chance to take the train out to the suburb of Oak Park, where I toured Wright’s own family home and studio as well as a dozen or so other residences designed by Wright that still exist in that neighborhood. Today, August 18th 2011, marks the worldwide launch of the highly anticipated Kidrobot x Swatch collaboration. To celebrate this pairing of artist-designed watches and matching Dunnys (Kidrobot’s signature 3-inch vinyl rabbit figure), Swatch is hosting events in eleven countries around the globe, featuring appearances by Kidrobot artists Frank Kozik, MAD, Tara McPherson, Jeremyville, Tilt and Joe Ledbetter. Additional Swatch / Dunny designing artists not participating in the events are Gary Baseman (a favorite here at the Worley Gig) and SSUR. Here’s some good news for anyone living in, or visiting, Tokyo, Japan between the dates of July 1st to 18th, 2011: Zac Pac Toys & Collectibles will be hosting Ron English’s first Japanese art show, entitled Popaganda in Japan. If you’ve ever been to one of Ron’s exhibits you know to expect something really far out and fantastic.
