Update: Hurricane Sandy Kicks My Ass!
Hey what’s up. You might have noticed that the blog has been a little light on posts since Monday night. This is owing to the fact that Hurricane Sandy came knocking, literally, on my front door. The buildings where I live on East 14th Street were hit very hard, with flooding in all basements. Not to mention, but you can see I am about to, the fact that we are located just half a block from the Con Ed transformer that exploded so spectacularly shortly before lower Manhattan was blanketed in darkness for days that, as of this writing, still have not seen a return of electricity to our homes.

On the corner of 14th Street and 1st Avenue, where we once reviewed the short-lived Meatball Factory, there now sits a welcome addition to this trending East Village neighborhood: Bait & Hook Seafood Shack. Specializing in seafood favorites and American comfort food, Bait & Hook flaunts a warm, intimate interior and minimalist nautical décor that includes authentic, re-purposed lobster traps suspended from the ceiling and ship’s wheels adorning the walls.

Hanging Astronaut
“Ground Control to Major Tom…”
I’ve been seeing what I call the Hanging Astronaut for the past week, twice daily as I travel between my home on East 14th Street and Union Square on the way to and from the subway. As it turns out, the Hanging Astronaut is actually a work of sculpture/street art by artist Emil Alzamora entitled Retrograde. You can read more about the Hanging Astronaut at This Link, although the page misidentifies the location of the intriguing sculpture.
