Nostalgia is a powerful emotion, transporting people to special moments and evoking feelings of comfort. The NYC Autumn Jewelry and Object Show, whose inaugural event I recently attended — really gets the significance of jewelry, watches, and art objects in capturing and preserving memories. This new show, which ran from November 16th to 19th (in partnership with NYC Jewelry Week) at the Metropolitan Pavilion,  provided a unique opportunity for both trade professionals and consumers to explore and acquire pieces that hold historical and cultural significance.

With the short span of time this year between celebrating Thanksgiving and the arrival of Christmas, it’s easy to forget that it’s still technically fall in NYC. That said, by Black Friday afternoon, fall decor was in a losing battle with Christmas decorations that started appearing on the streets and in storefronts shortly after Halloween. Crazy.

I doubt that this lovely autumn leaf wreath is made from actual leaves (it’s likely silk or some other fabric), but dang if it didn’t make me stop in my tracks and appreciate the beauty of nature when I saw it adorning the face of a Brownstone in Chelsea. And what a nice sentiment as well: Peace. Here’s the full shot below. Breathtaking.

A tour de force of its medium, this window, executed late in Tiffany’s career, portrays the late afternoon sun filtered through a rich autumnal foliage. It was probably designed by Agnes Northrop (1857 – 1953), who was known especially for her landscapes and flowers.
