Yes, It Exists: Hello Kitty Cotton Candy Flavored Yogurt

Hello Kitty Yogurt

Anne and I had been at the Monarch Rooftop, enjoying its unparalleled view of the Empire State Building and drinking Lychee Martinis until we were fucked-up out of our minds, when we decided to stop in at Jack’s — which is this gigantic close-out emporium — on the way back to the subway in Herald Square.  All I wanted to do was go home and slouch in front of the telly, but the idea of buying Indian food frozen entrees for $1.49 each was just too good to pass up.

While Anne searched in the refrigerator section for milk (yes they sell milk at Jack’s), I saw this in one of the glass cases, and then did a double-take. Yes It Exists: Hello Kitty Cotton Candy Flavored Yogurt from Yoplait. I couldn’t bring my self to purchase it, so I have no idea how it tastes, but it sounds pretty nasty.

Pink Thing of The Day: Cotton Candy Padded Cell

Food Artist Jennifer Rubell created this super clever Padded Cell made of Cotton Candy, and isn’t it fantastic looking? Padded Cell was presented as part of The Red Party 2011 biennial fund-raising dinner thrown by Nonprofit arts organization Performa, held November 6, 2010 at SIR Stage37 event center in NYC. Jennifer’s Website introduces the following artist statement as to what Padded Cell is all about:

Padded Cell is an 8’X16’ freestanding room constructed of basic building materials, with a single door that contains a plexiglass window. Inside, the walls and ceiling are padded with pink cotton candy and a bare light bulb hangs in the center. The door is opened at 9pm, but the interior is visible through the window throughout the evening. The Red Party’s main dinner is served inside a Russian-themed constructivist set (Note: photos at the links above and below) and Padded Cell acts as an escape from that, an all-American funhouse that is at the same time confining, threatening, claustrophobic. It is an object that addresses the dark side of pleasure, the price of pleasure, the possibility that pleasure is its own punishment. Approximately 1,600 cones of cotton candy are used in its construction.
