A year or two before the pandemic was even a thing, I noticed a vending machine similar-looking  to this one installed in Union Square subway station.  Likely sponsored by CVS or Duane Reade, it was stocked with common hygiene and healthcare items — such as a toothbrush/ toothpaste, Advil, and Tampax — that you might need in an emergency on your way to wherever. Not a bad idea, really. Who hasn’t forgotten to put something important in their purse or bag and wished there was a drugstore in the subway. I’m sure I have.

Show Your Vaccine Card at Krispy Kreme For Two Free Doughnuts, One Week Only!

Finally, someone is offering a perk to those who got vaccinated before it was being incentivized with cash payments. As the country continues to scale Covid-19 vaccinations, Krispy Kreme has found a way to show support for those who are protecting themselves and others by getting vaccinated. For me, staying healthy was incentive enough, but it’s nice to be acknowledged for doing the right thing .  Here’s the deal:

For one week only, 8/30 – 9/5/21, anyone who shows their Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card at any US-based Krispy Kreme location will receive two free doughnuts: an Original Glazed doughnut and an Original Glazed Heart-shaped doughnut. If you are feeling generous, you might offer your heart-shaped doughnut  to a friend, though I am pretty sure I would eat both doughnuts myself. Because free donuts.

I made my first appointment to get the Covid vaccine on the exact day that NY State opened eligibility for my age group, and was fully vaccinated by April. Being vaccinated allowed me to safely fly across the country to meet up with my sister (who is also vaccinated) for a mind-blowingly fun road trip across the state of Utah, which I will remember for the rest of my life. My time in Utah more than made up for hardly being able to leave my house of the better part a year. I feel that I owe not just my physical health, but the triumphant return of my mental health to the Covid vaccine. Thank god for medical science!

If you’ve already been fully vaccinated, thank you, and please congratulate yourself on doing your part to keep yourself and others safe as we attempt to beat this fucking virus, which as we can see is not backing down so easily.

Just in time for summer, NYC is opening up to in-person cultural events and experiences a bit more each day. Even art fairs such as Frieze and the Affordable Art Fair have successfully returned, which is great news for art fans! I’ve written previously about the very fun New York Gallery Tours, where local art historian Rafael Risemberg offers small group tours in NYC’s popular Chelsea gallery district, and I’m happy to announce that those tours will expand in size as galleries increase the number of visitors allowed inside their spaces at one time. But for those who aren’t able to get out just yet, and to accommodate folks located outside of  NYC who still crave an interactive art experience, Rafael offers his virtual Digital Arts tours, which are streamed live via Zoom.
