Here at The Gig, we are enthusiastic fans of Enjoy Life brand foods, having previously reviewed their fantastic Crunchy Flax Cereal as well as a variety of their Chewy, Soft Baked and Decadent Snack Bars, which are all excellent. So, today it is our pleasure to introduce you to Enjoy Life‘s all-natural Seed & Fruit Mix. These healthy and delicious snacks are ideal for people who love to snack on Trail Mix, but have nut allergies, as they satisfy the same craving for something crunchy while being 100% free of nuts and other food allergens! Salty, sweet and crunchy, both varieties of Seed & Fruit Mixes are so good you won’t even miss the nuts!
Above, you’ll see the Beach Bash variety, which contains sunflower kernels, pumpkin seeds, dried pineapple, apricots and cranberries. The cranberries even stay soft and chewy, and dried pineapple is a favorite ingredient of mine, so I am particularly fond of this variety! The single serving “Grab & Go” pouch is 1.6 ounces, so perfect for an on-the-go energy booster or for packing in a school lunch!
In addition to tasting great, these mixes are low-calorie and low in sodium, while containing good fats from seeds and antioxidants from fruit!
Chocolate fans will also want to try the Mountain Mambo variety, with its medley of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, apples, raisins, cranberries and mini chocolate chips! I have never really been huge fan of peanuts on their own, so I don’t miss the nuts at all. Both varieties of Enjoy Life Seed & Fruit Mix also come in a 6-ounce package for sharing. With delicious memories of its Winter showcase still lingering in our minds and tummies, we excitedly made our way to Food Fête’s Spring 2014 Health & Wellness media event, held on April 8th, 2014 in New York City. Exhibitors included a few of our longtime favorite products as well as hot new discoveries. Check it out!
Krusteaz was there, showcasing its newest products: a variety of Gluten Free Baking Mixes and Flatbread Mixes. Krusteaz’s Flatbread mixes are available in Italian Herb, Garlic & Onion and Whole Wheat flavors. These mixes are extremely versatile and are great for quick and easy pizza dinners, to serve with hummus or to make delicious appetizers, such as the fresh Caprese snack seen in the photo above.
Krusteaz’s Gluten Free Line includes: Buttermilk Pancake Mix, Blueberry Muffin Mix, Honey Cornbread and Muffin Mix and Double Chocolate Brownie Mix. With extensive experience with so many baking categories, the brand wants to provide consumers with a variety of gluten free options that are easy to bake and taste just like their traditional counterparts. Both Mix lines will be available at most major grocery chains starting in August, 2014. Look for future reviews here on The Gig!

I have been eating Barbara’s Cereals for years and their Peanut Butter Puffins Cereal is my absolute favorite! At Food Fête, Barbara’s was all about their Multigrain Squarefuls Maple Brown Sugar Cereal – heart healthy, whole grain squares sweetened with real Maple Syrup — and Organic Snackimals – the first cereal in the natural and organic aisle with fun animal shapes, including lions, elephants and panda bears! Snackimals is an ideal healthy breakfast choice for children because it not only has a yummy chocolate taste and appealing crunch, but the little animals shapes are delightful. Even I wanted to play with them!
BelGioioso Cheeses impressed me with a line of products that represent some of the most seriously delicious cheeses I’ve ever tasted – and I know my cheese! BelGioioso has just launched its 50 Ways to Leave Your Butter campaign – with 50 ideas on how to use Mascarpone cheese besides its traditional use in Tiramisu. I did sample the Mascarpone and will enthusiastically agree that with its creamy texture, mild, sweet taste and less than half the calories, this spreadable cheese is a tempting substitute for butter.
BelGioioso also offered samples of its Fresh Mozzarella Snacking Cheese – convenient 1 oz. packages of Fresh Mozzarella cheese, perfect for a convenient, light snack at only 70 calories per ounce. Good stuff!
Making its debut at Food Fête, Step One Foods impressed with a line of heart healthy mixes and snack bars. Step One Foods is the first-of-its-kind line of physician-formulated foods specifically designed to solve the dietary side of heart care. Developed by practicing cardiologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klodas, all Step One Foods contain scientifically-proven levels of the four critical nutritional building blocks for heart health: phytosterols, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and fiber.
The Step One Foods product line includes dark chocolate bars, cranberry nut bars, oatmeal, a smoothie mix, a pancake mix and an anytime sprinkle — and samples of each were given out at the show. Every product is pre-portioned and comes in a single-serve package requiring minimal to no preparation. The Cranberry Nut Bars have a surprisingly tangy, fruity taste that other, granola-based snack bars don’t have, so that was a great surprise. Also, I made the pancakes for my breakfast this morning and they were easy to prepare and absolutely delicious. I would like to add that both Dr. Elizabeth and her associate, Barb, were super nice ladies. I wish them the best of luck with this line of excellent products.
So Delicious Dairy Free Foods — their name says it all — returned to Food Fête with some exciting new products, including a coconut milk based whipped topping and two new varieties of their flavored coconut milk beverage.

It’s always great to see the folks at Enjoy Life Foods, whose Crunchy Flax Cereal and Soft Baked Bars have previously received much love from The Gig. Arnold®, Brownberry® and Oroweat® Premium Breads won the hearts of all the vegetarians at the show with their tiny vegetable sandwiches made on Arnold Whole Wheat Bread and Sandwich Thins. Cholesterol free with zero grams of Trans fat and no high fructose corn syrup, Arnold Whole Wheat Bread is fresh and soft with a delicious whole grain taste, while the Sandwich Thins are super versatile and very low in calories while not skimping on great taste!
Celebrating 20 Years in Business, Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods has a line of Veggie Burgers that will tempt even a devoted meat lover like myself. I was able to sample the Asian, Black Bean and Kale varieties and despite an admitted “fear of Kale,” I must admit it was quite tasty and not scary at all! There are no fillers or egg products in these burgers, just a fresh vegetable taste “where you recognize all the ingredients.” The California, Bombay, Tex Mex & Italian Veggie Burgers are also certified Vegan.

You may recall reading about Enjoy Life brand Soft Baked Snack Bars previously here on The Gig, so you know they are not only 100% delicious but also 100% Allergen and Gluten Free! Enjoy Life recently sent me a shipment of four of their newest snack bar flavors and I have had time to sample each one. Each box contains five individually wrapped bars, so you can take them on the go or just be assured that they will be fresh when you reach for one to snack on.
The Sunbutter Crunch flavor is made with sunflower seed butter for a mild, nutty taste and that’s not overly sweet. The crunch comes from crisped rice, which is a favorite ingredient at Enjoy Life. Chocolate lovers will flip over the triple chocolatey-ness of the Cocoa Loco variety: a chocolate baked bar loaded with chocolate chips and enrobed with a chocolate coating. Decadent! If you love apple pie or other baked goods made with fresh apples then you’ll be a fan of the Caramel Apple variety, which is surprisingly moist! Also new is the Mixed Berry Baked Chewy Bar, studded with lots of dried strawberries and cranberries for pleasantly tart-sweetness. Surely there is a flavor here to satisfy every snack craving.
These bars are especially yummy because they really do stay moist and always taste fresh baked. Find out where to go in your neighborhood to buy Soft Baked Bars and other fine Enjoy Life products by visiting This Link!
When I was a kid, Granola Bars – which, seriously, were just being introduced at that time – tasted like molasses covered particle board. Eventually, those dry, jaw cracking “treats” became “chewy granola bars” and continued to metamorphose until something that was supposed to be “healthy” and “natural” looked and tasted remarkably similar to a candy bar, with some rolled oats thrown in. Epic Fail!
You may recall that a few weeks back, Enjoy Life Foods shipped us a huge box of their snacks and today we are going to tell you about one of our new favorites, Cherry Cobbler Soft Baked Bars. I am a big fan of Cherry Pie or just about anything containing that fruit. What I loved instantly about the Cherry Cobbler variety of these bars is how each one is really packed with chewy dried cherries as well as other yummy stuff such as crisped rice and dried apples. They are so good, and only 140 calories each!
These Decadent Bars (as they are also called on the box) are great for a quick on-the-go breakfast, a snack anytime, or a fun dessert. Look how I put ice cream on one for a fancy treat:
Enjoy Life Soft Baked Bars come in three other tempting flavors (I have a box of each still waiting to be enjoyed), including: S’mores, Chocolate SunButter® (Sunflower Seed Butter) and Cinnamon Bun. Each bar is topped with a sweet icing drizzle which complements the flavor. All bars are gluten-free and free from the top 8 allergens. Do you like cereal? I sure do. When it comes to breakfast foods that you don’t have to actually cook, cold cereal is my favorite breakfast. I eat it at least five days a week as I answer emails and schedule important meetings each morning while sitting at my desk. Brain Food.
I grew up in a household where my Mom did not buy any presweetened cereals, so while all of my friends were eating Cap’n Crunch and Froot Loops, I was eating stuff like Cheerios and Shredded Wheat, so I definitely developed a taste for whole grains early in life. This is probably why I am in love with this cereal I just discovered with the very fun name of Crunchy Flax with Chia, by Enjoy Life Foods. Seriously, it is the most delicious cereal.
Crunchy Flax With Milk Added (Photographed by Me at My Desk)
I have seen Crunchy Flax described as “Crispy, crunchy puffs,” but I would say they are more like tiny nuggets rather than puffs. In fact, if you have eaten Grape Nuts, Crunchy Flax will make you think of that cereal, because it stays crunchy a long time after you add the milk. I like it way better than Grape Nuts though, because it has a better flavor and you don’t have to be afraid that you are going crack a tooth on it. Because Grape Nuts are hardcore. Crunchy Flax is a kinder, gentler cereal, if you will.
Crunchy Flax is 100% natural, made with ground flax seed and chia seeds, and it is not only delicious but also very nutritious; being sweetened with fruit juice and containing 44g of whole grain, 7g of protein, 1000mg of Omega-3s and 5g of fiber per serving. Also, it is gluten free! You could add some berries or sliced fruit to a bowl and it would be just outstanding.
