If you love the art of Os Gemos as much as I do, then you’ll want to know that Lehmann Maupin Gallery is currently hosting Cultivating Dreams, the gallery’s sixth solo exhibition with the renowned Brazilian artistic duo of twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo. Featuring 13 new paintings and a site-specific immersive installation, the exhibition invites fans into the vast and magical landscape of Tritrez, a dreamworld invented by the artists and developed in their work over the past three decades.

Banksy in New York: Defaced Gathers His Greatest Hits Under One Roof

My first exposure to Banksy — the pseudonymous British street artist (some say consortium) whose irreverent works of socio-political satire have appeared in site-specific locations across the globe — was a visit to his October, 2008 immersive Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill. Located in a Greenwich Village, NYC storefront and filled with surreal creations both familiar and exotic, the installation was designed to look like a typical pet store, but with a twist. While there was no actual Charcoal Grill serving food, rather than selling live animals, the store featured a variety of animatronic pets, including fish sticks swimming in a fish bowl, ‘chicken nugget’ baby chicks and a rabbit applying makeup before a mirrored vanity.

Giants By Os Gemeos on Granville Island

Granville Island is a tourist destination populated with specialty shops, food markets and art galleries that’s accessible via a short ferry ride from the Vancouver waterfront. It was there that I stumbled upon this monumental work of public art locked away behind the security fences at Ocean Concrete. I immediately recognized the larger-than-life mural, entitled Giants, as the creation of one of my favorite street artist duos, Brazilian twin brothers Gustavo and Otávio Pandolfo a.k.a. Over the course of three weeks in September (though the exact beginning and completion dates are unknown to me), I watched Brazilian street artists (and twin brothers), Os Gemeos, paint the above murals, which cover the exposed facades of two buildings that border a vacant lot, located on the north side of West 14th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. The murals portray two rival break dancing crews from the ’80s. I imagine that this fun piece, which is a great example of Os Gemeos very distinctive style, will stay up until someone decides to put up a building. Which could happen at any time.
