There are not many philanthropists like Eli Broad, who died on April 30th, 2021 at the age 87. In his lifetime, Broad and his wife Edith amassed a personal collection of over 2,000 works of contemporary art, which they then donated to the city of Los Angeles (and the world), building a namesake museum to house them all for your enjoyment. Who does that? Amazing. You can read more about Eli Broad’s life of service in his obituary from the NY Times at This Link. Read all about my super fun visit to The Broad Museum shortly after it opened in 2015, and see some choice pieces of the collection, at This Link. RIP.

It came as a bit of a surprise to notice that, while checking our stats on the evening of October 6th, that this little blog of mine — still going strong for 17 years on the web and counting — has reached a milestone goal of 6,000 posts published! I wanted to wait until today to celebrate, so as to not steal the thunder of the tragic passing of the great Edward Van Halen, who shall be missed on this earthly plane, but whose musical legacy is immortal. Thanks for reading!
In the past few weeks, the city streets have become a canvas for protest art spawned in the wake of George Floyd’s murder by the police. You can see that someone has placed a prayer candle on the sidewalk in front of the mural, but it’s easy to miss if you aren’t paying attention, because the mural sits below eye level. They say that celebrity deaths come in threes. This past week we said goodbye to playwright Terrence McNally, legendary Drummer Bill Rieflin and, on a local scale, NYC Gallerist and Photographer Paul Kasmin, whose renowned Chelsea galleries have provided Worleygig.com with amazing content for more than a decade. Ladies and Gentlemen: It’s finally Summer! So, consider this clip starring legendary actress and sex-goddess Raquel Welch performing the classic medley from Hair, “Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In” to be my official launch of what I hope will be a Summer of kick ass videos, as well as a salute to this being Pride Day here in NYC! Certainly there has never been a more appropriate time to open ourselves up to this song’s lyrical prophecy of “Harmony and understanding, Sympathy and trust abounding” etc etc. I’m sure you will agree.
