Thierry Mugler Madonna Evening Ensemble
All Photos By Gail

This ensemble by Thierry Mugler, entitled Madonna, served as the finale to his tenth-anniversary collection, which was staged at Le Zenith, and indoor in Paris. The model Pat Cleveland wore it as she was lowered from the ceiling of the auditorium in a cloud of dry ice, as if descending from heaven.

MCA Beastie Boys Mural on East 7th Street

MCA Beastie Boys Mural

This nice homage to the late Adam Yauch, AKA MCA of The Beastie Boys, was spotted by me one afternoon as I was walking home. I am not sure how long it has been up, but it is at least the fifth such mural in a series created to honor Yauch — who died of cancer on May 4th, 2012, at age 47— that’s inhabited this exact location on some kind of heavily-chained door. You can see a few of the other past murals at This Link. The artist is Cramcept. I have no idea what’s behind the door.

The Where Have You Been MCA Mural is Located on the South Side of East 7th Street Just West of First Avenue in NYC’s East Village.

In Memorium: Ten Photos of Daisy Berkowitz Wearing a Kilt

Scott and Skeleton Ts
Scott Putesky (aka Daisy Berkowitz): April 28, 1968 – October 22, 2017 (All Photos By Gail)

I believe that it is possible to live an entire lifetime in one day. I met Scott Putesky (sometimes better known as Daisy Berkowitz, founding member and original guitarist for the band called Marilyn Manson) in 2015 at mutual friend Mark Kostabi’s semi-annual Jazz Art Brunch. Mark, an accomplished musician himself, knows a ton of other musicians, and people always get up and jam with the band. At one point Scott played keyboards and sang a couple of cover songs. After he finished his set, I introduced myself, since I had written extensively about his band back in the day and I knew we had a few other mutual friends. Scott turned out to be very down-to-earth guy, and a terrific conversationalist, so we drank and laughed, talked about art and exchanged cards for a possible future meet up.

We were very sad to learn of the passing of groundbreaking painter and Op Art pioneer, Julian Stanczak on March 25th of this year. He had good, long life! As a last hurrah, Mitchell-Innes & Nash is currently hosting The Life of the Surface, Paintings, 1970 – 1975, an exhibition of Stanczak’s paintings exclusively from the years 1970 to 1975. This long-planned exhibition is Mitchell-Innes & Nash’s second solo exhibition with the artist, and the first since his recent passing.

Chris Cornell Memorial Video Clip of The Week: Soundgarden, “Outshined”

I got up feeling so down
I got off being sold out
I’ve kept the movie rolling
But the story’s getting old now, oh yeah
I just looked in the mirror
And things aren’t looking so good
I’m looking California and feeling Minnesota, oh yeah Continue reading Chris Cornell Memorial Video Clip of The Week: Soundgarden, “Outshined”
