In 1960 Samaras began a series of Surrealist-inspired boxes filled with personal materials that he encrusted in needles, mirrors, shards of glass, and brightly colored beads. The boxes were followed by room–sized installations and subversive Polaroid self–portraits. Like Samaras’s boxes, Book is a multifaceted object and a miniature world in itself. Although it includes eight fictional narratives written by the artist between 1959 and 1967, it is not a storybook.

Hundreds of books about Art are published every year and it’s challenging for even hardcore Art enthusiasts like me to keep track of the best ones. But I don’t think I’ve yet come across a coffee table-sized Art book that I wanted to peruse cover-to-cover for hours in the way I do Art & Place: Site-Specific Art of The Americas — a comprehensive collection of public art, due out from Phaidon Press in November, 2013.
On Saturday, September 28th, rock music and photography icon, Graham Nash (The Hollies, Crosby Stills & Nash) will be signing copies of his book, Wild Tales: A Rock And Roll Life (Crown Archetype) at Morrison Hotel Gallery in Soho. The gallery will open at 11:00 AM for people to purchase copies of the book. Graham will be signing from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM.
