Remember The King with a Shake Rattle & Rock Cocktail Shot!

Elvis Cocktail Shake Rattle and Rock

Although he’s been gone for over thirty years, Elvis is still known as The King of Rock n’ Roll! To celebrate his passionate career, Basil Hayden’s Bourbon teamed up with top LA mixologist Damian Windsor to create a cocktail-style shot that combines sweet and salty flavors mixed with the trademark spicy finish of Basil Hayden’s Bourbon. Damian’s creation was inspired by two of  The King’s favorite foods – Banana and Peanut Butter – and the growing trend to create bourbon cocktail-style shots using savory ingredients.

Breaking Bad Cocktail: The Blue Sky

Just one more day of waiting until the beginning of the end: meaning the bittersweet final epsiodes of Breaking Bad, a TV show so amazing, it needs custom cocktails created it its honor! Thrillist Dot Com has posted a few intriguing recipes for potent potables — including The Blue Sky, The Mr. White and The Captain Cook — that you can shake up for your upcoming Breaking Bad viewing parties, as we drink our way to a very sad day.

Here’s how to make one of them:

Blue Sky Cocktail
•1.5oz Pisco brandy
•1/4oz Absinthe
•1/2oz lemon juice
•3/4oz Orgeat
•1 egg white
•1/4oz Blue Curaçao
•Soda

For a little crystal blue persuasion, just pour everything but the soda into a shaker (without ice), then jostle that sucker until the egg’s all foamy. When the chemical balance of cold and blue is complete, pour it into a glass, top it with crushed ice, then fill it with soda until the foam reaches the top. Garnish it with 99.1% pure blue rock candy.

Delicious Indian food can be found all over Manhattan; from East 6th Street to Curry Hill and elsewhere. But when you really want an unforgettable fine dining experience in the realm of Indian Cuisine, there is no question that the place to come is Junoon. On a previous visit to this Michelin-starred foodie haven on West 24th Street, we were wowed by delicious foods perfectly paired with a variety of wines (wine pairings are a Junoon specialty), gracious, personalized service and the understated opulence of the main dining space. When we paid a long-overdue return visit to Junoon last week, we decided to change up the experience a bit by dining in the Restaurant’s equally gorgeous front room and bar, which is called the Patiala Lounge.

Ivy Bar and Grill Elevates Neighborhood Bar Fare to Gourmet Eats

Ivy Signage
All Photos By Gail and Anne Raso

A comfy and welcoming bar and grill can easily become a favorite neighborhood hang out based on atmosphere, drink specials, favorite beers on tap and its number of wide screen TVs; with the quality of the food served being mostly inconsequential. And while the menu offered at Ivy Bar and Grill, open since February on Eighth Avenue and 56th Street, would indicate that they are not aiming to become an upscale dining establishment, the quality and taste of the new American comfort food they serve up says otherwise. I enjoy a good watering hole as much as the next New Yorker, but I am also a huge foodie, and Ivy is the first bar I’ve found that could seriously become a destination based on its cuisine. My dining companion and I discovered a few new favorites on our first visit this past week.

The Bob Marley Shot

Bob Marley Shot
Make it! (Image Source)

Directions:

  • First, fill your shot glass 1/3 with strawberry syrup.
  • Next, carefully add another 1/3 of creme-de-banana.
  • For the top layer, mix some white overproof Jamaican rum with green creme-de-mint and fill the glass the rest of the way.

The secret to the layers is simple: progressively lighter fluids poured slowly will float nicely on top of each other. Mixing the overproof white rum with the creme-de-mint makes the green top layer the lightest and strongest part of the shot.

Enjoy, and keep Jamaica in your prayers.
