I am a big fan of the work of maverick architect Frank Lloyd Wright; this much is no secret. When I was in Chicago in the Spring of 2010, I had the chance to take the train out to the suburb of Oak Park, where I toured Wright’s own family home and studio as well as a dozen or so other residences designed by Wright that still exist in that neighborhood. Wow, what a cool way to spend an afternoon is all I can say. Frank Lloyd Wright!

Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Ghost Installation

In June of 2009, Périphériques Architectes of Paris, France participated in the second edition of the Contemporary Art Exposition Saint-Germain-des-Près with an installation on Place Furstemberg. The Pink Ghost installation was a sculptural transformation of the center of the square with a preservation stance. Made of pink epoxy, the installation enveloped four trees and a streetlight to a height of 2.5 meters, and covered the entire surface of the small central square.

2010 CANstruction Exhibit Now on View at NYC’s Brookfield Place

For all fans of art and also those fascinated with architecture and design, the annual Canstruction exhibit is a must see. Canstruction, Inc. is a nonprofit organization – and the most unique food charity in the world – that holds annual design and build competitions among those in the architecture and design field where the challenge is to construct fantastic, giant sized, structures made entirely out of canned food. After the structures are built, with the winners in each city chosen, the “canstructions” go on view to the general public as a unique and cohesive art exhibit. This year, 25 amazing sculptures are on view in the Brookfield Place mall located in the World Financial Center in downtown Manhattan.
