A & G Merchandise is a fun home furnishings store that’s just across the street from Sea Thai restaurant in Williamsburg, and Geoffrey and I often use it as our meet-up destination when we are heading to Sea from different points of departure. Recently, I arrived a few minutes before G, so I had time to browse a bit and see what’s new.
Check out this pair of Pink Poodle Book Ends! They look super retro and would be perfect as part of any Midcentury Modern decor! Made of heavy cast iron, one of these could easily serve as an impromptu bludgeoning device if you were being chased around your house by a mad man and didn’t have time to get to your kitchen knives.

Regardless of how great a song is, I really need a video to grab my attention visually within a few seconds, or it’s not going to get in this here column. “Blank Stare,” by a band called Solids, won me over with its first images of tiny red and yellow houses, contrasted against a blindingly blue lake and an aggressively orange mountain range, which made my eyes almost start watering just from the sheer brightness of the colors. OK, is it just me, or is this thing completely insane? It’s a little cherry-print dress that looks like it’s for a baby girl (in which case it would be adorable), but, it’s for a dog. A dog dress. I’ve heard of dog sweaters, which can actually help a short-haired dog stay warm when outside in a cold climate, but a fancy baby girl’s dress that is meant to put on a dog is just… ridiculous– and also, a little sad.
