The School of Visual Arts is reaching for the stars  with an inspiring new collaboration between its BFA Illustration and BFA Design students and NASA. The result? A stunning poster exhibition celebrating next spring’s highly anticipated Artemis II mission, which will send four astronauts on a journey around the Moon and pave the way for future human exploration of Mars.

Kenny Scharf (b. 1958)  moved to New York City in 1978 to attend the School of Visual Arts, and rose to prominence in the downtown art scene alongside his friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Influenced by popular culture and comic books, Scharf’s distinctly colorful and dynamic work presents joyful worlds filled with carton and anthropomorphic characters.

Photographer Yimei Wang (School of Visual Arts) won a 2017 PDN Student Photo Contest for Restructured Fast Food, a study on fast foods reconstructed with newspaper’s and magazines, which comments on both consuming behavior, and today’s direct access to information, using collage montage.

The Morrison Hotel Gallery, in conjunction with the Dream Downtown Hotel is currently presenting a collection of fine art photographs by legendary Blondie guitarist Chris Stein. A student of NYC’s School Of Visual Arts, Chris started taking photographs in 1968. In 1973, he met and began working with Debbie Harry and together they founded the band Blondie. Chris was always taking pictures in the environment that surrounded Blondie and, lucky to be on the inside, was able to mingle with many pioneers of the new wave and punk music scenes.
