There is little doubt that you would be the only person in your neighborhood to own one of these glass-topped tables, with a model of HR Giger’s Alien creature serving as its base, but having one in your home still looks like a dangerous proposition to me. Here I am looking large in my many layers of outerwear posing with LEGO Brick artist Nathan Sawaya and one of his amazing sculptures that you can see now at the Agora Gallery on West 25th Street. Nathan’s current exhibit, Red, is up until December 14th, 2010 so make sure to see it while you can!

For all fans of art and also those fascinated with architecture and design, the annual Canstruction exhibit is a must see. Canstruction, Inc. is a nonprofit organization – and the most unique food charity in the world – that holds annual design and build competitions among those in the architecture and design field where the challenge is to construct fantastic, giant sized, structures made entirely out of canned food. After the structures are built, with the winners in each city chosen, the “canstructions” go on view to the general public as a unique and cohesive art exhibit. This year, 25 amazing sculptures are on view in the Brookfield Place mall located in the World Financial Center in downtown Manhattan.

“Goodbyes” By Nathan Sawaya
One of my favorite contemporary artists, sculptor Nathan Sawaya, will be opening a new exhibit of his unique and mind-bending LEGO Brick creations at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea later this month. I wrote a blog post back in April of this year about one of Nathan’s previous exhibits, and I certainly plan on checking out this new collection, which is called RED. According to gallery representatives, “RED, represents a new shift in the career of the internationally famous Sawaya, presenting his most recent works which enter fresh and original territory for both himself and the medium.” Personally, I can’t wait to see it!
