Nostalgia is a powerful emotion, transporting people to special moments and evoking feelings of comfort. The NYC Autumn Jewelry and Object Show, whose inaugural event I recently attended — really gets the significance of jewelry, watches, and art objects in capturing and preserving memories. This new show, which ran from November 16th to 19th (in partnership with NYC Jewelry Week) at the Metropolitan Pavilion, provided a unique opportunity for both trade professionals and consumers to explore and acquire pieces that hold historical and cultural significance.

Cool Things I Saw at the Metro Curates Art Fair

For the moderately-sized art fair that it is, no one could accuse the Metro Curates show, which ran from January 21st to 25th at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street, of a lack of diversity or ambition.
An annual event now in its fourth year, Metro Curates brought together a dynamic and cerebrally stimulating array of periods, genres and styles from folk art to antiques and collectibles to pop and outsider art from across the country. Socially, it was a great place to see and be seen, and to schmooze with your artist and collector pals, but it was also an excellent outlet to gain exposure to facets of the art world that may be outside of your comfort zone. At any rate, this Art fair was a lot of fun!

Child’s Drum Chair

A Different Kind of “Drum Throne”
This unique and collectible 1940s-era Child’s chair that looks like a drum is up for auction at First Dibs, where you can also see more pictures and get a description of the chair. Looks like a pretty cool addition to either an antique furniture collection or for someone who’s very into drumming!
