While strolling down Clinton Street on the Lower East Side recently, I passed a neighborhood bakery that I affectionately refer to as the “ghetto bakery” — mostly because the cakes in the window rarely look like anything you’d actually want to eat. While digging around for a stock image (don’t even ask what I was searching for), I stumbled across something so gloriously random I had to share: Barbie, dressed as one of Santa’s Helpers, hovering over a tiny toilet bowl. Clearly, she’s here to remind us all not to overdo it at those holiday parties. Pace yourself, people—no one wants to end up on the Naughty List like Barbie!

The Astronaut Barbie released by Mattel in 1985 was part of the brand’s long-running effort to inspire young girls to dream big. This particular doll was notable for her futuristic Pink Metallic Space Suit, complete with silver accents, a bubble-style helmet, and Pink Boots.

A highlight of my visit to London last month was a day spent at the Design Museum for Barbie: The Exhibition, a design-focused Barbie-completist wonderland that was absolutely mind-blowing. Spotted in the display window of a London clothing boutique, this Barbie Doll wearing a bespoke Pink outfit and seeking shelter under a Pink Japanese Umbrella, looks to me like she was rode hard and put away wet, as the saying goes. You can see she’s got her hairbrush in hand, so obviously she’s trying to do some damage control, but wtf is up with those smudges of dirt / bruises (!) on her face?
