Often a pop of color can completely change the feel of a streetscape. Case in point: the outdoor dining area at Romeos on St. Marks Place in the East Village. The curbside setup is a particularly appealing shade of pale pink, with low metal stools and matching folding cocktail tables, each decorated with a little red heart in the center. Bright red umbrellas provide the finishing touch —and a welcome bit of shade. Because while it’s still summer we should be eating and drinking outdoors as much as possible! Mary Poppins Statue in Leicester Square
This bronze statue of Mary Poppins that graces Leicester Square in London is a delightful tribute to one of cinema’s most iconic characters. As I stood before this whimsical rendition of the beloved nanny, memories of my childhood flooded back. I vividly recall watching the 1964 Disney film, where Julie Andrews brought Mary Poppins to life with her enchanting portrayal. I remember thinking that she was so beautiful.

Pink Thing of The Day: Boutique Window Display With Pink Barbie
Spotted in the display window of a London clothing boutique, this Barbie Doll wearing a bespoke Pink outfit and seeking shelter under a Pink Japanese Umbrella, looks to me like she was rode hard and put away wet, as the saying goes. You can see she’s got her hairbrush in hand, so obviously she’s trying to do some damage control, but wtf is up with those smudges of dirt / bruises (!) on her face? In Blue Umbrella 2 (1972), Alex Katz depicts Ada Katz, his wife and most iconic subject. Over the course of a collaboration between artist and sitter that stretches from the late 1950s to today, Katz has portrayed Ada in countless guises, from radiant ingénue, to preoccupied young mother, to reflective nonagenarian.
