As a grown woman who sometimes still feels the sting of decades-past adolescent bullying and ostracism, I will never discount the importance of feeling included. Living in NYC, however,  I feel comfortable embracing my inner nerd goddess without fear of judgement — and if you don’t like me, seriously, you can fuck right off.  I get to attend and cover a lot of fun events for this website, but my very favorite pop culture convention is Flame Con: the largest LGBTQ comic convention in the world. At Flame Con, trust me, nothing is shocking and even a straight geek like me feels that she has found her tribe.

Pink Thing of The Day: Gay Bar Soap

Did you ever see the movie Fight Club? It is pretty good, if a bit disturbing, and is sometimes known in popular culture for the bars of Fight Club Soap that were given out to journalists and probably also movie theater owners as a promotional item when the film was first released.  While soap-making is a sub-plot thread within the film (don’t ask) these bars of soap do not actually appear in the movie. In short order, however, sellers of novelty items started making Fight Club soap that you could actually buy, and now you can find these bars all over with a variety of sayings on them. Because that is how it works.

Pink Thing of The Day: Andy Warhol’s The Last Supper

This vibrant pink version of The Last Supper (1986) was one of 20 similar works exhibited at a gallery across the street from the convent that houses Leonardo da Vinci’s famous The Last Supper mural in Milan. Andy Warhol attended the exhibition opening, which would be his last, on January 22, 1987.

This Mural, which went up on June 15th, 2022, was located on First Avenue near 16th Street on the front window of the Stuyvesant Town Leasing Office, but was taken down in early August.
