Karl Lagerfeld was associated with the fashion house Chloé during his career, serving as its creative director from 1966 to 1983. Under Lagerfeld’s direction, Chloé was known for its romantic and feminine designs, often featuring flowing silhouettes, soft fabrics, and delicate details.

One of many highlights from my fun-filled holiday trip to California was a visit to Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains; an immersive exhibit covering the complete history of the legendary progressive rock band that even a casual Pink Floyd fan will flip out over. Given my extreme fondness for costume design, you can only imagine my delight in finding that one of the galleries included replicas of the enigmatic Lightbulb Suits seen on the cover and related artwork for the band’s 1988 live album, Delicate Sound of Thunder. In the early 1920s, in response to the industrial age and increasing consumerism, Stuart Davis began to incorporate commercial goods and advertising graphics into his art. Edison Mazda (1924), with its flattened space and collage-like composition, resembles the Cubist still lifes of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. But rather than portraying pipe racks and candlesticks, Davis includes a contemporary manufactured object: a blue, seventy-five watt light bulb.
