In this modern Covid life that we live, do you find that your hands are perpetually red and chapped from constant washing, as well as endlessly wiping down counters and household surfaces with disinfectant wipes that can dry your skin even further? I sure do.
Not to mention, but you can see I am about to, the fact that, for many months, wipes were difficult — if not impossible –to even find on the shelves. I think we can all relate to the intimate new relationship that we have with disinfectant wipes; a product that, prior to March of 2020, I will confess to having purchased maybe once or twice in my entire life. Just being serious.
I was walking west from the 6 train at 103rd Street on the way to the Museum of the City of New York when I spotted this very cool mural, which looked to me at first like a Native American interpretation of the Statue of Liberty. It turns out that the artist is Mexican muralist Sego, and this striking piece is done in his signature organic style. Entitled Freedom and Emancipation of The Natural World, the mural was painted for the Monument Art Festival, which took place in October of 2015. As much as everyone is already whining about the impending hellish winter that we are surely in for again this year, all you have to do is walk into the cavernous Gagosian Gallery space on West 24th Street and get an eyeful of the 18 foot high sculptures reaching towards the celing and 30 foot long murals unfurling across the walls in Takashi Murakami’s In The Land of The Dead, Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow to realize that — Polar Vortex be damned — New York City is the Center of The Universe, and that is where you want to be. Do you like Pepperoni? I sure do. To me, pepperoni pizza is especially delicious when the pepperoni is very thinly sliced so that it gets crispy like bacon and curls up around the edges when it comes out of the oven. Oh my goodness, heavenly. Pepperoni sometimes scares people, however, because it can contain a lot of salt and hidden preservatives, which are the very things that help to make it so delicious.
