Google Buys the Zagat Guide


Show Me Where The Food Is

For all of my ceaseless efforts to find places to eat that are not my house, I was infused with joy earlier today to read that the Google has just purchased Zagat – the review company that rates not only restaurants but (less importantly) stores, hotels and other service providing establishments by surveying consumers.

Google’s Marissa Mayer, VP of local, maps and location services announced in This Blog Post that Google will “collaborate with Zagat to bring the power of Google search and Google Maps to their products and users, and to bring their innovation, trust and wealth of experience to our users.” It will be awesome to finally have the power of Zagat’s reccommendations available online since, in my experience, online access to specific review  information has been restricted because they want you to buy the annual print edition of their restaurant guide. How archaic! Now, if they could just keep my favorite eating establishments from going out of business.

As Geoffrey and I left the Factory Fresh Gallery and set off to explore the neighborhood, I felt a bit peckish. We didn’t have to walk very far before we found a place to grab a snack just a few blocks up the road from the gallery, where we spotted Arancini Bros, a tiny storefront that sells Rice Balls exclusively. East Village Bloggers’ Summit

Earlier today, representatives from the three raddest pop culture blogs on the web, OMG BLOG, WorleyGig and According to G met at restaurant 7A to discuss Brunch food options. The consensus was: California omelet, 7 grain toast, home fries, side of crispy bacon (“like little boards”), fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee.

Last night, in celebration of me being grateful for the end of a hellish three-day work week, Geoffrey and I paid a visit to our current favorite Mexican restaurant, Tequila Chitos on West 23rd Street (recommendation: go there!) to drink a pitcher of sangria and engorge ourselves with a pre-Thanksgiving feast of enchiladas and chips.
