In the early 1970s, the future was shiny, sleek, and full of promise. Few designers captured that hopeful, otherworldly energy quite like Serge Mansau with his Space Age Low Table (1973) — a sculptural masterpiece in steel and nickel that feels equal parts furniture, spacecraft, and dreamscape.

Pink Thing of the Day: Pierre Cardin’s Silk Jersey Jumpsuit
When it comes to pushing fashion into the future, no one did it quite like Pierre Cardin. This week’s Pink Thing is a striking Pink Silk Jersey Jumpsuit from 2008, a perfect example of the late designer’s lifelong devotion to bold form, saturated color, and theatrical flair. With its sweeping batwing sleeves, tapered legs, and shimmering black fringe at the neckline and cuffs, this jumpsuit transforms the body into a living sculpture.

Fashion In The Space Age (All Photos By Gail)
Over the course of a seven-decade career in design, Pierre Cardin has released collections that have rocketed so far into the future they were once emblematic of the Space Age. For an example of Cardin’s influence in popular culture, look no further than the 1960s cartoon The Jetsons, where Jane Jetson’s styles look as though they could have been lifted from the designer’s showroom.

The Most Beautiful Daughters (after Balthus) By SHAG (All Photos By Gail)

Eye On Design: Nova Black Hole Illuminated Coffee Table
Experience the excitement of space travel without the risks by adding the Nova Black Hole Illuminated Coffee Table to your home décor instead. This futuristic table designed by Jon Gilmore features a center section with concentric rows of white LED lights that resemble a black hole sucking up light rays. The glass table top serves the dual purpose of supporting your drinks or oversized picture books and protecting you from falling in. The body of the table is made from aluminum in a shiny silver finish and is shaped a bit like an alien spaceship. Functional and innovative, the Black Hole table will look as good in your home as it would in the Jetsons’ living room. Currently priced to move at just $1,069.99, the table’s dimensions are 42”W x 42”D x 16”H.
