On the hunt for the “oh wow” moment of the recent BDNY design show at Javits Center, I knew I had found the star of the show when I entered the booth for Lladró; a legendary company now in its 70th year. Introducing a captivating fusion of artistic elegance and functional brilliance, Lladró breaks-free from its traditional identity as a renowned creator of collectible porcelain figurines to unveil Soft Blown, a groundbreaking venture into the realm of interior lighting.

On a trade show floor crammed with 600 exhibitors, the one thing you need to do is stand out visually, and this how you do it. This life-size Pink Phone Box was spotted at the recent BDNY (Boutique Design New York) show in the booth for Cooper Classics, who specialize in wall mirrors and cabinets to the hospitality trade.

At the recent Boutique Design NY (BDNY) show at NYC’s Javits’s Center, I was on the look-out for pieces with a big “Oh, Wow” factor, and this super-colorful, suspended mosaic sculpture by Tennessee-based contemporary artist Dana Jo Cooley did not disappoint. Cooley calls the piece, My Window Your View: A Transfiguration. Here’s the story of how it came together.

In the wake of my two favorite design shows (Salon Art + Design and BDNY) I was invited to attend the opening party for Achille Salvagni Atelier design gallery on Madison Avenue. The luxurious gallery features furniture, lighting and glass works by renowned designers Achille Salvagni and Benoist F. Drut of Maison Gerard placed in a domestic setting to facilitate the experience of living with these  beautiful pieces. With single-use plastics on the way out, one consumer item that will be most-impacted by the need for alternative packaging is something we use every day: Water. Most everyone carries their own portable water bottle when they’re on-the-go these days, but when you’re away from a source for refilling that bottle, the need to buy ‘bottled’ water remains. It’s exciting to see how manufacturers will meet the demand for sustainable consumer packaging going forward, and one company that’s definitely blazing the trail is JUST Water, a product that I was introduced to at the recent BDNY Hospitality Industry show at Javits Center.
