Do you like Vodka? I sure do, but I admit I had not heard of Purity Vodka (From Sweden) until I was invited to take the Purity Vodka Taste Challenge – at a party held for that express purpose at Manhattan’s downtown Dream Hotel, nice! — just last evening. Here is how that went down.
First, participants in The Challenge were presented with two unmarked flutes with a bit of vodka in each. We were instructed on the proper way to taste – sniff, tilt glass to check for “legs,” swirl, sniff again, then sip. Taste one glass, then repeat the process with the second. Ceremony! The Orchid Show is going on now at the New York Botanical Garden and I made the trek from the East Village all the way to the Bronx today with my friend Diane (aka Diaaahhhhne) to check out the flowers and enjoy a day outside in the 50 degree sunshine. Because winter is almost over!

If you live out on the West Coast or, even better, Hawaii, and haven’t yet managed to get yourself dressed and out of the house, I just wanted to give you a head’s up that today is Wear Purple Wednesday. Wear Purple Wednesday aims to raise awareness of Gay Rights by honoring recent gay teen suicides and hate crime victims that have made headlines in the past few weeks. Can you even imagine how much it would suck to not be able to be yourself out of intimidation or fear for your own safety? As author and sex advice columnist Dan Savage once wisely said, “Tolerating Others is the Price We Pay for Being Tolerated Ourselves.” So, remember the Golden Rule (Jesus said it), love your neighbor as you love yourself, and wear some purple today.
