Sarah Lucas’s Nud Nob, up now at the Gladstone Gallery, features a series of large-scale bronze and cast-concrete sculptures displayed either on pedestals or installed directly on the gallery floor. Porter Contemporary is currently hosting We’ll Be Happier Tomorrow, the gallery’s first solo exhibition of new paintings by Lori Larusso — which I stopped by over the weekend and found to be completely charming.
Through shaped, acrylic panels depicting realist images of mundane objects, Larusso embarks / comments on the American Dream — and the idea of happiness being tied to external consequences — revealing symbolically and metaphorically the twist to having such an unrealistic outlook. Although he’s been gone for over thirty years, Elvis is still known as The King of Rock n’ Roll! To celebrate his passionate career, Basil Hayden’s Bourbon teamed up with top LA mixologist Damian Windsor to create a cocktail-style shot that combines sweet and salty flavors mixed with the trademark spicy finish of Basil Hayden’s Bourbon. Damian’s creation was inspired by two of The King’s favorite foods – Banana and Peanut Butter – and the growing trend to create bourbon cocktail-style shots using savory ingredients.

The Journey of the Big Banana Car
The world is a wonderful and amazing place, and what better way to see it than from the comfort of a large banana? Steve and Spade Braithwaite, AKA The Dirty Brothers are making a documentary film about building a huge banana car and then driving it from point A, around the world, and back to point A. The purpose of their quest is to raise funds for / awareness of D.V.T. (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and blood clot prevention.
