Each year at the Summer Fancy Food Show, I enjoy tasting hundreds of delicious new specialty foods and meeting new friends, but I especially love to return from the show with camera full of crazy photos of the fun and creative displays and props that exhibitors use to attract show-goers to their booths — because the competition is fierce! Most years, Belgian Boys Bakery puts together a visually engaging and whimsically-themed display that does justice to the company’s line of scrumptious desserts. This year, that theme was all about Pink Things, as you can see here by this Hot Pink Plastic Pineapple resting on a tony pink sand beach. Yummy! Stay tuned for more photos of the pink things spotted in the Belgian Boys’ booth once I get my Summer Fancy Food Show 2019 photo recap online, later this month!

Keith Haring NYC Pride Cake
This delicious-looking, multi-tiered cake couldn’t help but catch my eye as we passed the Empire Cake, where it was prominently displayed in the bakery shop’s front window. Check out the colorful fondant cut-outs in the shapes of some of the most iconic works by the late artist and activist Keith Haring. Brilliant.
Empire Cake is Located at 112 Eight Avenue (Between 15th and 16th Streets) in Chelsea, NYC.
Cake Shoes By Chris Campbell!
Please don’t eat these shoes! Creating works that are very similar to the art of contemporary sculptor Scott Hove, designer Chris Campbell has expertly painted and sculpturally enhanced dozens of pairs of Jimmy Choux shoes so that they appear to be decorated with the accoutrements of a fancy bakery cake! Clever and beautiful, but definitely not edible!

The Yucaipa-based Gingerbread Shop was spotted by me a few days after Christmas at downtown Riverside’s Festival of Lights, where they’ve parked for at least the last three years. The Google informs me that this Bright Pink A-frame pop-up bakery is an offshoot of a bakery at Santa’s Village (a small park with kiddie rides that I recall visiting as a child), and for a time was a fixture at the Inland Center mall in San Bernardino.
