Even the Vertical Views Are Outstanding! (All Photos, By Gail Except Where Noted)

Nothing says “Hey Look, it’s Summer” quite like a rooftop party, am I right? Speaking of parties, the timing was certainly perfect for Art Meets Mixology: a fun event I attended on the day of the Summer Solstice, held at the Silver Towers luxury high-rise located just east of the Hudson River in Hell’s Kitchen! Views for miles! Continue reading Silver Towers Presents: Art Meets Mixology Rooftop Event in Hell’s Kitchen!

Tomás Saraceno’s Cloud City on the Roof of The Met

Tomas Saraceno Sculpture Cloud City
“Ooh, Big & Shiny”

Argentinian-born Artist Tomás Saraceno has created a constellation-like installation of large, interconnected modules constructed with transparent and reflective materials for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. Visitors may enter and walk through these habitat-like, modular structures, which are grouped in a nonlinear configuration.

Over the past decade, Saraceno has established a practice of constructing habitable networks based upon complex geometries and interconnectivity that merge art, architecture and science. The interdisciplinary project “Cloud Cities/Air Port City” is rooted in the artist’s investigation of expanding the ways in which we inhabit and experience our environment.

Brunch Hot Spot: Upstairs at the Kimberly!

All Photos By Anne Raso

Ah, weekend Brunch in NYC. It’s a continuously evolving hot topic that keeps all of the Yelp reviewers on their toes! We love the funky East Village brunch scene, but sometimes we like to put on our fancy shoes and check out what’s going on a little further uptown. This past summer, we enjoyed a magical rooftop evening of unique and hearty appetizers, tall cool cocktails and stunning city views at the Penthouse level restaurant, Upstairs at the top of the Kimberly Hotel. As luck would have it, we heard that they also host a killer Brunch. Continue reading Brunch Hot Spot: Upstairs at the Kimberly!

Upstairs at the Kimberly Hotel: Much More than Just Rooftop Cocktails

When you get right down to it, there are woefully too few days in a New York City summer where the planets align to create weather that’s both seductively warm and miraculously free from precipitation, making for the perfect scenario for a rooftop dining experience. We enjoyed just such a cosmic occurrence one evening last week, when we were fortunate enough to snag a prime table at Upstairs, the luxurious rooftop restaurant and bar located on the Penthouse level of the Kimberly Suites Hotel.

Unlike similar venues that may flaunt coveted Rooftop views of our fair Metropolis while phoning it in when it comes to service and consumables, Upstairs backs up its bragging rights with an impressive menu of gourmet eats and signature summer cocktails that will add significant value to your evening of memorable views. Top Of The Rock: A Fun Touristy Thing to Do!

Empire State from Top of the Rock

I think it’s safe to say that most people who live in Manhattan don’t do very many traditionally touristy things when they are out on their own. At least that’s true for me. I’ve lived in NYC for over twenty years and, after hitting all of the famous, must-see attractions at least once (RIP The Top Of The World), the most touristy thing I do these days is go to museums. But last night I met up with a former high school classmate of mine and her family, who were enjoying their very first visit to NYC, and when they expressed a desire to hit the Top Of The Rock – the observation deck at the top of Rockefeller Center – so they could cross it off their list, I was in just the right mood to go along. I’m really glad I did, because it was a lot of fun!
