Downtown New York has hosted generations of underground cultural communities, providing a vibrant home for drag queens, theater performers, filmmakers, and outcasts. Performance artist and queer liberation activist Agosto Machado has been a long-standing figure in these scenes. Over five decades, he has amassed a large collection of art and ephemera from the city’s counterculture, which he assembles into shrines, such as the one seen above. Lucy Jones creates fashionable garments for wheelchair users and people with diverse abilities who sit for extended hours at a time, as both groups of people are often unable to consume mainstream fashion. Jones designed this Shirt (2017) for a seated body. It has a cropped silhouette to prevent bunching and discomfort, and features easy-to-use magnetic fasteners.

Sol Lewitt’s Horizontal Progressions will be on Exhibit Through February 22nd, 2014 at Pace Gallery, Located at 534 West 25th Street, NYC in the Chelsea Gallery District. Gallery Hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
