For authors, a book’s cover is one of the most critical parts of their books. Why? Well, the book cover design is the first thing readers notice, so it plays a big part in attracting readers and generating sales for the author. Furthermore, a well-designed book cover sets the tone for the content inside, making it the first point of contact between the story and the reader. A good book cover also gives a general idea about the demographic the book is aimed at, whether it’s a work of fictional or not, and the book’s core genre. The Pervasive Influence of David Bowie in Art and Pop Culture

Bowie’s Eyes By Elena Lobanowa (All Photos By Gail)
For more years than I can recall, I’ve been photo-documenting the proliferation of David Bowie’s likeness on assorted things ranging from art and street art, to holiday ornaments, toys, books, mugs, magnets, what have you. With a few exceptions, most of these photos never make it into a blog post: I just like to collect them. Because, David Bowie. After recently spotting two pieces of Bowie-inspired street art on the same block in Greenpoint, I finally decided to load them all into one big Bowie extravaganza. Please enjoy!

Anselm Kiefer’s Uraeus Sculpture at Rockefeller Center

All Photos By Gail (Thanks to Dave Manilow for The Tip on How to Get This Great Shot!)
Memorial Day Monday was not the hoped-for sunny day here in NYC, and the grey sky with threat of rain lent itself to indoor activities like Museum visits! Thus, I was inspired to head out to the Museum of Modern Art, followed by a short walk downtown to Rockefeller Center to see the new summer public artwork. This year’s monumental work is the first site-specific outdoor public sculpture ever to be commissioned for the United States from German artist Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945). Entitled Uraeus, the work consists of a gigantic open book with eagle’s wings spanning 30 feet, both made of lead, on top of a 20-foot-tall lead-clad stainless steel column. Eye On Design: Gio_Graphy Disco Window Display at Bergdorf Goodman

“My Favorite Color is Rainbow” (All Photos By Gail)
It must have been some kind of cosmic coincidence that, while walking to the train after attending a late night Birthday party for Randy Jones, best known as The Cowboy from ’70s Disco legends The Village People, I passed right by the iconic NYC department store, Bergdorf Goodman, and got a face full of this mind-blowing, disco ball extravaganza window display.
