Just when you think Cody Foster & Co. can’t create any new and clever David Bowie Christmas Ornaments for your holiday décor, you see this thing at NY Now and are proven wrong. Yes, it is a glass ornament of a white cat head with the Aladdin Sane lightning bolt across its face and heterochromia eyes — which Bowie did not actually have, but which he is commonly depicted as having. What Bowie actually suffered from is called anisocoria: namely that one pupil was larger than the other. Live and learn.

Favorite Art From The Affordable Art Fair, Fall 2022!

If I am ever asked to name my three favorite pastimes (which really is not often) I will respond as follows:

I like to Eat
I like to Look at Art
and
I like to Watch TV

You can see that my love of Art is way up there, ranking just behind my love of sustenance, TV and also (not mentioned previously) sleeping. Art Fairs are a terrific way to get a huge and diverse art fix in one place and my favorite is the twice-annual Affordable Art Fair (AAF), which I have been highlighting and photo-recapping since 2015! I can’t believe how much I rule.

Kansai Yamamoto (19442020)  established his business in Tokyo in 1971. His theatrical references and exuberant designs —  a Pop response to the West’s nineteenth century fascination with Japanese art —  quickly became a favorite with youthful subcultures in London and New York. Instagram Photo of The Week: RIP Photographer Mick Rock

Anyone who grew up in the 70s, loving bands like Queen and David Bowie, knows the legacy of photographer Mick Rock. Along with the equally phenomenal Bob Gruen, Rock was a photographer whose skilled eye captured images – fleeting moments in rock history – that were every bit as important to the times as the music being made by those he was shooting. It is not at all surprising that Mick Rock is also known as “The Man Who Shot the 70s.” It was sad news indeed to hear of Rock’s passing on November 18th due to complications from a two-year battle with cancer. He is surely irreplaceable. RIP, Mick!

The Pervasive Influence of David Bowie in Art and Pop Culture

Bowie’s Eyes By Elena Lobanowa (All Photos By Gail)

For more years than I can recall, I’ve been photo-documenting the proliferation of David Bowie’s likeness on assorted things ranging from art and street art, to holiday ornaments, toys, books, mugs, magnets, what have you. With a few exceptions, most of these photos never make it into a blog post: I just like to collect them. Because, David Bowie. After recently spotting two pieces of Bowie-inspired street art on the same block in Greenpoint, I finally decided to load them all into one big Bowie extravaganza. Please enjoy!
