Created by British artist Gabriele Beveridge, the wall-mounted sculpture True Bone (2019) pairs hand-blown glass forms with chromed steel shop fittings, materials more commonly associated with retail display than fine art. Yet here, they take on a distinctly biological presence.

Eye On Design: Z Chair and Serie Fil Multi-Function Table By François Arnal
François Arnal (1924 – 2012) was a multidisciplinary French artist who was primarily known as a painter and sculptor. In 1968 he set up Atelier A (Workshop A) to publicize the works of furniture designers. I recently popped into art furniture gallery Demisch Denant on West 12th Street and was thrilled to find that they had two of Arnal’s most iconic pieces on display! Let’s take a closer look.

Eye On Design: Charlotte Perriand’s Revolving Armchair Circa 1928
In this design from 1928, partly inspired by an office swivel chair, Charlotte Perriand softened the rigidity of the tubular, chrome-plated frame with a stuff cushion resting on coil springs. Because the frame and the upholstery required considerable handwork, the chair was relatively expensive and manufactured in limited numbers. Perriand used such chairs in her own Paris apartment.
